South Korea recovered from a sluggish start against Guam, riding a big second quarter to win via blowout, 99-66, to qualify for the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 quarterfinals at the King Abdullah Sports City, Saudi Arabia on Tuesday (PH time).

After Guam jumped the gun in the opening canto and took the slim lead, South Korea went off on a scalding second quarter with a 33-10 run to flip the script.

The troika of Jeonghyeon Moon, Yungi Ha, and Hyunjung Lee connived as South Korea shifted gears in offense to overwhelm Guam.

At the halftime break, it was South Korea’s game to lose, 50-28.

The onslaught continued in the second half as the Koreans led by as many as 37 points, 90-53.

Four different players finished in double figures for Korea, with Moon leading the way on a perfect 8-for-8 game to finish with 18 points. He also had eight rebounds, one assist, and five steals.

Lee added 14 markers, nine rebounds, and two assists.

After just scoring two points in the three previous games for Guam, Alexander Kamai led the team with 19 points in the losing effort.

Gabriel Simon added 15 markers, six boards, and three assists. Jericho Cruz once again sat the game out due to a hamstring injury.

Korea thus forges a clash against China in the quarterfinals set for Thursday, August 14.
