Chezka Centeno continued her bid for a medal at the 2025 World Games in China, entering the semifinals after a convincing win for Team Philippines.

Centeno, the 2023 world 10-ball champion, marched on to next round of the women’s 10-ball event after besting Spain’s Mayte Ropero, 7-2, in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Up next now is home bet Shasha Liu, a three-time nine-ball winner, on Wednesday.

Set to face a decorated champion with home-court advantage, Centeno is still brimming with confidence against Liu as she looks to secure another medal for the Philippines in this multi-sport event.

“I am confident because I have beaten Shasha several times before,” Centeno said.

“I will do my best to advance to the Finals and take home the gold medal,” she added.

Currently, Team Philippines have won one medal — with Kaila Napolis taking a silver in jiu-jitsu.

Despite the gold medal being elusive so far, Chef de Mission Stephen Arapoc remains upbeat Team Philippines, especially as other athletes in sambo, powerlifting, and duathlon have yet to compete.

“I am still optimistic that we can still bag a gold,” Arapoc said. “It is usually dark before dawn.”
