Mikey Williams needed to get an additional green light to make his PBA comeback with the Converge FiberXers.
Wondering why Mikey Williams only played in the fourth quarter of Converge’s 102-94 win over Macau in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup?
As it turns out, the FiberXers needed to wait for clearance from FIBA before fielding in Williams in what was his PBA comeback Wednesday night.
Converge team governor Archen Cayabyab made this clarification shortly after the match at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Despite going scoreless, Williams proved to be the stabilizer when it mattered most for Converge, going for two rebounds, three assists, and a steal for the FiberXers.
“I didn’t really get to do the things I wanted to do because I was sitting there worried about something else,” said the two-time Finals MVP, who played his first PBA game since Game 6 of the Season 47 Governors’ Cup Finals in 2023.
“Everybody’s doing what they can to help the team. But in the fourth quarter I just wanted to get my feet wet and get a feel for the game being in my first game in a while.”
While he joined the team only a week before the conference opener, Williams is confident he will get into his groove in no time.
“It’s basketball, it’s not foreign to me. It’s just learning the system, learning the defensive principles, just learning how to do things,” he said.
“Got great seven days of practice. I feel like Im hitting my stride, just needed to get my feet wet today,” Williams added.

He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
