Lito "Thunder Kid" Adiwang is coming from a loss to Keito Yamakita in their strawweight MMA fight last February.
Is Lito "Thunder Kid" Adiwang planning a permanent move to flyweight? He's considering it.
The SOMA Fight Club representative has been a staple in ONE Championship's strawweight MMA division ever since he was competing in the ONE Warrior Series circuit nearly a decade ago.
But after a loss to #4-ranked strawweight contender Keito Yamakita in February, "Thunder Kid" revealed how he's keeping all doors open moving forward.
"I'm excited to see what's in store for me. I'm excited to see the possibilities. I'm even up to moving at flyweight and I think it will actually be better for me. Since I won't be cutting too much weight, I can focus on a whole lot of other things," Adiwang
said.
"I can focus on sharpening my techniques, and I won't be losing too much strength and endurance there. I can go full blast from the first to the third round there."
The 30-year-old explained that age is also becoming a factor in his decision making, admitting that he's already feeling the difficulties of reaching the strawweight limit — something he had no problems with before.
"I have to admit as I get older, as the days go by, I struggle making strawweight now," Adiwang said.
"Usually, I would be so strong and so good during training but once I start shedding that weight, once I go down 59 kilos and below, I lose my strength and endurance. I think that's the reason why after the first round, I'm spent."
But Adiwang emphasized that nothing is final, and that he still has his eyes on the strawweight gold.
All he's saying is that he's more open to possibilities this time around.
"You know I've made a name in the strawweight division, and I still want to get that belt. I guess that's why for as long as I can, I still cut to strawweight and I'm still a strawweight fighter," Adiwang said.
"All I'm saying is if there's an offer in flyweight as well, I'll take it."
