The future of Philippine women's volleyball is looking bright.
The first leg of the Southeast Asian Volleyball League is done and dusted.
Unfortunately, the Philippine women’s national volleyball team has yet to snatch a win in the tournament.
But despite this, Filipino volleyball fans are more than proud of the effort put in by the Filipina spikers in the tournament so far.
The Philippines came into the SEA V.League with the youngest squad in the competition, composed of players from the UAAP.
The national team faced the likes of powerhouses Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia who were bannered by professional players who play in international leagues.
This is why Twitter user @nuwvtcontents is thankful for the effort put in by the Philippine squad, saying “they still managed to give their opponents a great game.”
This was also the same sentiment shared by other netizens, as they express hope for a bounce back performance in the second leg of the tournament next week.
“May Leg 2 pa tayo. Basta ako proud ako sa girls. Lumalaban kahit sobrang layo ng programa ng mga bansang 'to,” wrote Twitter user @TeamNationalU.
@chofornal is still in a congratulatory mood, saying that the tourney will only sharpen the young volleybelles.
Praises were given as well to NU Lady Bulldogs star Bella Belen as she showcased her talents in the international stage.
User @MessMinchin3 even said that the UAAP should be “afraid” of Belen.
"Grabe 'yung fortiture din talaga ni Bella," @volleystan chimed in.
Other players like Belen's NU teammate Vange Alinsud and Roma Mae Doromal of the Ateneo Blue Eagles also got their flowers.
"Oo na nga Vange, starter ka pa rin next season," wrote Madam Butterfly.
"Either si Roma or Bella ang Token awardees for PH," said @RoyalePrince27.
Through it all, Filipino fans will not fail to liven up the situation. In @tclevenotsimp's case, it's best to bring up Miss Universe, where the Philippines is a perennial contender.
"Lagi naman natin silang natatalo sa Miss Universe," the netizen wrote.
The second leg of the SEA V.League will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from August 11 to 13.
