Gilas Pilipinas accomplished their job in the first window of the FIBA World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers, sweeping Guam in their home-and-away series.
Gilas Pilipinas blazed to a red-hot start before weathering a late Guam storm for a 95-71 win in the FIBA World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers at the Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym on Monday, Dec. 1.
Everything clicked for Gilas from the get-go as it raced off to a 17-3, but the Philippines needed to quell the visitors’ late uprising to secure the victory.
Nevertheless, Gilas completed a 2-0 sweep of Guam in the first window of the qualifiers, sharing Group A lead with Australia.
The game was also a fitting sendoff for Gilas pillar Japeth Aguilar, who ended a storied national team career which began in 2009 and ended with a strong win at his college alma mater.

He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
