Here’s to hoping it will translate to wins in the continental meet.
For Gilas Pilipinas Women star Jack Animam, Vanessa de Jesus could be the missing piece for the team.
“She has the body and the size for a point guard and that’s what we’re lacking talaga,” Animam said.
The Duke Blue Devils star guard is definitely a big boost for a team seeking to hold its own against the heavyweights in the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup which begins on June 26 in Sydney.
“And her knowledge playing against top colleges in the USA. That’s gonna help, her experience, that’s gonna help us a lot,” she said.
The team, though, will only have a week to train with the high-profile Fil-Am hooper before opening its campaign against powerhouse Australia.
The last time the two met, the Philippines absorbed a lopsided 120-56 loss.
But with the addition of De Jesus and the core of Jack Animam, Afril Bernardino, and Ella Fajardo leading the charge, a different result this time is likely.
The Filipinas hoopers are grouped with defending 6-time champion Japan, Chinese Taipei, and the Aussies.
