Alas Pilipinas near an Invitational tournament sweep after overpowering Korean V-League champions Hyundai Capital Skywalkers in four sets.
The Alas Pilipinas Men's team continue to impress in their three-day Invitational tournament after firing past Korean V-League champions Hyundai Capital Skywalkers in four sets, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 25-20, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Wednesday, June 11.
Team captain Marck Espejo powered Alas Men to victory behind his 20-point outing as the national team moved to 2-0 in the round-robin tournament. The game also marked the debut of Fil-Am spiker Jackson Reed.
Up 9-8 in the fourth set, Alas Men pushed ahead with a 4-1 run behind the combined efforts of Espejo and Leo Ordiales.
While the Skywalkers managed to pull within just a single point at 14-15, UAAP MVP Kennedy Batas’ services proved to be a tough task for the Korean squad, as Alas pounced to distance themselves once more with a 3-0 blast.
From there, Alas Men held on to their lead with Espejo putting his squad at match point before a service error from Hyundai Capital sealed the victory.
Last up for Alas Men will be the Thailand Men’s National Volleyball Team tomorrow, 7:30 p.m., still at the Big Dome.
