NU Lady Bulldogs' 108-game winning streak outlasted a lot of relationships, stints, to name a few.
We’d been so used to the National University Lady Bulldogs winning that the prospect of the team losing after over a hundred games of dominance seemed far-fetched.
Until the unthinkable happened on November 23.
La Salle dealt NU its first loss since the 2014 UAAP season. Coincidentally, the Lady Archers were also the last squad to beat the latter in 2013 when the two met in Game 3 of the finals.
But don’t get me wrong. Even with a dent on its win-loss record this season, NU remains a powerhouse team. Who knows, after this loss, the Lady Bulldogs could come out playing inspired basketball and propel another 108-game winning streak or so.
But while we’re here, let’s talk about their immaculate record which could remain untouched for the foreseeable future - a feat that actually outlasted a lot of relationships, stints, to name a few.
P.S. But In the game of who outlived whom, we all know Juan Ponce Enrile remains the undisputed champion.
Jadine
Everyone was “shipping” Nadine Lustre and James Reid that when they announced their breakup in 2020, it seemed like a national day of mourning. The split was the first of many tragedies of the year that saw the world crash at the hands of the COVID-19 pandemic.
But wounds have since healed and both OTWOL stars are happy now with their separate lives. Reid was linked to Nancy of K-Pop girl group Momoland, while Lustre has been enjoying out-of-town trips with her non-celebrity beau.
Cristiano Ronald’s as Man Utd winger
Ronaldo’s second spell with the English Premier League didn’t last long.
When the Portuguese winger, widely regarded as the best ever to play football, decided to return to Old Trafford from Juventus last year, Man U fans rejoiced.
Turned out it was not for long as the club announced on Tuesday it was parting ways with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
Right now, though, Ronaldo is making the most of what could be his last World Cup for the Portugal national team. He etched a new record by becoming the first to score at five FIFA World Cups.
Cabinet stints of Vic Rodriguez and Trixie Cruz-Angeles
Vic Rodriguez’ and Trixie Cruz-Angeles' stints as executive secretary and press secretary, respectively, did not last longer than expected.
Rodriguez, who served before as spokesperson for Bongbong Marcos Jr. prior to his presidency, resigned even before the PBBM administration reached 100 days in office. Lawyer-vlogger Cruz-Angeles stepped down weeks later due to health reasons.
PBA Asian imports
Way before Japan, Korea, and Taiwan began tapping the services of Filipino ballers, the PBA had allowed “Asian imports.” The rule lasted for a total of two conferences: the 2015 and 2016 versions of the Governors’ Cup.
Then-chairman Patrick Gregorio, TNT’s alternate governor, came up with the rule that allowed teams to sign one reinforcement from Asia. Guys like Sam Daghles, Michel Madanly, and Omar Krayem came over to spice up the action in the first pay-for-play league in the continent.
In a 2021 interview, PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said there’s a possibility it will happen again in the future.
Manny Pacquiao the playing coach
Manny Pacquiao shocked the world when he threw his name in the 2014 PBA Draft. Expansion team KIA picking him 11th overall didn’t come as a surprise though.
In select moments from 2014 to 2017, the boxing’s only 8-division world champion served as playing-coach of the Kia Franchise. His highlight included a baseline jumper ala Kobe Bryant against Chris Tiu.
In all, he played 10 games in the PBA.
