At 42, Nonito Donaire had a successful ring return after winning the WBA interim bantamweight title at the expense of Andres Campos of Chile.
Nonito Donaire came out victorious against Father Time this time around.
Two years since his last fight, the 42-year-old “Filipino Flash” made a successful ring return at the Casino Buenos Aires in Argentina on Sunday, June 15 (PH time).
In his comeback, Donaire downed Andres Campos via technical decision following a ninth round stoppage to win the vacant WBA interim bantamweight championship.
The stoppage happened after Donaire could no longer see from his right eye owing to a cut off an accidental headbutt.
Donaire thus improved to 43 wins, including 28 knockouts, against eight losses.
On the other hand, the 27-year-old Campos from Chile dropped to 17-3-1.
Donaire’s last fight prior to this one was a 2023 loss via unanimous decision to Alexandro Santiago for the WBC bantamweight championship.
Before that, Donaire was knocked out in the second round by Naoya Inoue during their 2022 rematch to unify the WBC, WBA, IBF, and The Ring bantamweight titles.
