DLSU star Angel Canino makes it two in a row in individual awards in the AVC Nations Cup, this time winning Best Outside Hitter for Alas Pilipinas.
Angel Canino once again proved her mettle as an international hitter for Alas Pilipinas, winning one of the two Best Outside Hitter awards at the AVC Nations Cup Saturday in Vietnam.
It was sweet consolation for Canino, as Alas had to settle for a silver medal after losing to the hosts in straight sets.
Canino was the leading scorer for Alas Pilipinas all tournament long, and once again proved her versatility by also playing opposite spiker along with three-time UAAP champion Alyssa Solomon. Notably, Canino was Best Opposite Hitter in last year's edition.
The former UAAP Rookie-MVP’s willingness to step into the dual role proved pivotal, especially as Solomon missed out on one match due to injury.
During the game that Solomon missed against Iran, Canino stepped up as the team’s best scorer with 20 points.
Canino, Alas skipper Jia De Guzman, and middle blocker Dell Palomata were the individual awardees from Alas Pilipinas.
Canino also proved her championship mettle especially in the must win game against Kazakhstan at the end of the group stage, finishing with 13 points. She also fired off 17 and 11 markers against Indonesia and Mongolia, respectively.
