With reigning MVP Angel Canino still out for De La Salle University, the Lady Spikers have turned to sophomore Shevana Laput to deliver for the team—and so far she has done so exceptionally.

Laput has been admirably filling in for La Salle ever since Canino suffered a right arm injury, guiding the Lady Spikers to a 4-1 record while averaging 20.4 points per game.

This past week, the 6-foot-2 opposite hitter finished with 24 points in DLSU’s four-set win over Adamson University, before having 15 markers in the team’s clean sweep of Ateneo de Manila University.

But despite her stellar performances for the Ramil De Jesus-led Lady Spikers, Laput is still looking to improve her game even further.

“You know, I'm just glad that there's progress. I always think to myself that I'm a work in progress, so this isn't my best and I know I can do so much more but I'm glad that right now I'm contributing to the team,” Laput said during the post-game press conference.

Laput was also not shy in commending her teammates for their performances without Canino.

“I'm just glad that I can contribute to the team. I'm also proud of my teammates because from the stats here, we can see that everyone did something, so I'm just glad that we're working together as a team,” said Laput.

“I'm very excited to show everybody we're the Lady Spikers and this is how we play,” she added.

With just a game left in the elimination round, it’s still unclear whether Angel Canino will finally make her return for the Lady Spikers. But whether or not she plays, Laput is ready to fill in the void for La Salle.
