The NU Lady Bulldogs remain in the hunt for a twice-to-beat advantage after their clean straight-set victory over the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament on Wednesday, April 10.
National University continues its dominance in the second round of the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament after a clean sweep of Ateneo de Manila University, 25-22, 25-16, 25-15, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Wednesday, April 10.
Contrary to their first-round encounter which lasted five sets, the Blue Eagles simply had no answer for the Lady Bulldogs this time around. NU won its fourth-straight game, keeping in step in the race for a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four.
After a slow start where the Blue Eagles led 9-5, the Lady Bulldogs turned the momentum around to secure a 25-22 first set win and never looked back, finishing the game in straight sets.
Alyssa Solomon had her way against Ateneo as she finished with 23 points, built on 19 attacks and four service aces. Vange Alinsug contributed 15 points and 11 excellent receptions in the win.
Bella Belen had a quiet outing, and finished with just two points in the match, connecting on only one attack out of 15 attempts.
Still, NU sits at 9-2 in the standings, trailing the University of Santo Tomas (10-1) and De La Salle University (9-1). Meanwhile, Ateneo's Final Four chances continue to slip away with a 3-8 record.
No Ateneo player reached double figures as AC Miner managed only nine points while Lyann De Guzman and Yvana Sulit delivered eight points each.
