The Philippine women’s national football team opened its SEA Games 2025 Thailand campaign with a tough 2–1 loss to Myanmar on Friday, December 5, at the IPE Chonburi Stadium.

The Filipinas conceded a late goal that denied them a point in their Group A debut.

Myanmar struck early in the fifth minute after a defensive miscue inside the Philippine box.

Tun Win Theing capitalized on a poor clearance, firing a shot into the top corner and beyond the reach of goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel to give Myanmar a 1–0 lead.

The Filipinas battled back and found their equalizer in the 70th minute. A dangerous header from Jessika Cowart forced a fumbled save from Myanmar keeper Myo Mya Mya Nyein, allowing Mallie Ramirez to pounce and slot in the rebound to level the match at 1–1.

But Myanmar regained the advantage late. In the 89th minute, Mon Myint May Thet rose above the defense and headed in the go-ahead goal, sealing a 2–1 win and delivering a frustrating finish for the Philippines after a much-improved second-half showing.

The Filipinas now shift their focus to a crucial matchup against Vietnam on December 8. Only the top two teams in the group advance to the knockout stage.

The games will be aired on One Sports YouTube and Pilipinas Live.
