The Philippine Coast Guard and Army rescued the PLDT High Speed Hitters after they were stranded by severe flooding at their training gym in Quezon City due to heavy monsoon rains.
Players and staff of the PLDT High Speed Hitters had to be rescued Monday night, July 21, after being stranded for hours at the SGS Gym in Quezon City due to severe flooding brought by nonstop rains from the southwest monsoon.
The floodwaters rose along G. Araneta Avenue, where their training facility is located—an area known for its vulnerability to flooding during heavy downpours.
Stuck since the afternoon, the team was eventually evacuated at around 9:00 p.m. through the coordinated efforts of the Raha Rescue Team, the Philippine Coast Guard, and the Philippine Army.
Among those stuck in the gym were Majoy Baron, Mika Reyes, Kim Fajardo, Jessey De Leon, Jovy Prado, Savi Davison, and Anne Esguerra.

Baron and the rest of the High Speed Hitters were eventually transported to safety via rescue boats.
“Maraming salamat po to our Philippine Coast Guard and Philippine Army and our volley friends who assisted in rescuing our High Speed Hitters,” the team posted on social media.
“Saludo to the ones who braved the floods to get to us. Ang tunay na mga idol,” added veteran middle blocker Mika Reyes.
Despite the ordeal, no injuries were reported, and all players and staff are safe.
The High Speed Hitters are slated to fly to Cebu in a few days for the next PVL on Tour leg, where they will put their unblemished record to the test against fellow unbeaten squad Nxled on July 26, followed by a clash with Galeries Tower on July 27.
