No rookie jitters for Ateneo alumni Lyann De Guzman as she uncorked 21 points for the Nxled Chameleons to shock the All-Filipino Conference champions, the Petro Gazz Angels, during the PVL on Tour.
The Nxled Chameleons pulled the first shocker of the PVL on Tour as they completed a five-set upset over the Petro Gazz Angels, 25-23, 19-25, 19-25, 25-15, 15-10, at the Batangas City Sports Center on Saturday night, marking their first franchise win over the PVL All-Filipino champions.
Rookie Lyann De Guzman did the heavy lifting on offense with 21 points. But it was Nxled skipper Chiara Permentilla who took over in the clutch, scoring her team’s last four points in the deciding fifth set to finish the comeback against the Angels.
The Chameleons had to dig deep in coming back from a set down twice in the match, as it was Petro Gazz who seized the 2-1 lead in Set 3.
But De Guzman, who was selected fourth overall in the 2025 PVL Rookie Draft, was consistent for her team — especially in Set 4, where she supplied big points late in the set, including the clincher which forced the match into a fifth set, 25-15.
Petro Gazz struggled as they were forced to be without MVP Brooke Van Sickle and MJ Phillips who were with the national team.
Veterans Remy Palma and Chie Saet were also absent for the Angels on the taraflex, who instead leaned on younger and more role players to make up their roster in the preseason.
Both teams return to action on Sunday, June 29, as the Chameleons hope to replicate their success against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans while the Angels will aim to rebound against the Galeries Tower Highrisers.
