Nica Celis is eager to learn and grow in the PVL alongside the Creamline Cool Smashers' veteran core, saying she’s ready to prove herself through hard work rather than promises.
The 2025 PVL Rookie Draft proved to be the proudest moment for Nica Celis after being selected by powerhouse Creamline Cool Smashers as the 23rd overall pick.
Still in disbelief, Celis admitted she never expected to land with one of the league’s most decorated franchises.
“Honestly, I was really blank while nagwa-wait kami,” Celis said moments after hearing her name called. “Parang when I heard my name, it felt unreal kasi it was never in my mind that I would go to their team, so parang it's still such an honor to be there."
The Cool Smashers, known for their championship pedigree and veteran core, present a rare opportunity for growth, and Celis is embracing the challenge.
“It's exciting kasi I'm gonna be surrounded by really great players and I know that I'll pick up a lot of things from them and learn a lot of things from them, so I see this as an opportunity to grow,” she shared.
Under Creamline, the former UP standout will get to learn under star middle blockers such as Bea de Leon and Pangs Panaga.
Celis will also have a chance to compete for championships this time around, something she had always wanted to achieve in her UAAP career.
“Grabe just the thought of it is really thrilling to the point na tara na, training na tayo ngayon,” she beamed. “I just don't know how to explain this feeling that I have right now, but overall it's just pure bliss.”
With plenty of expectations that come with joining the winningest team in the PVL, Celis made sure to keep her head focused on what’s important.
“I don't want to promise anything, I'd rather you just watch kasi I really am striving to make a difference now.”
