The Petro Gazz Angels regained winning form after sending the PLDT High Speed Hitters crashing in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
Petro Gazz quelled the erstwhile-unbeaten PLDT with a straight-set shocker in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena Saturday.
Fresh off a tough five-set defeat to Choco Mucho last Tuesday, the Angels dumped their frustrations on the High Speed Hitters in a strong 25-16, 25-23, 25-21 win to elevate to a 2-1 record.
"Well, first of all, we've learned from our last game versus Choco Mucho and coach Koji (Tsuzurabara) immediately addressed those errors namin noong last game," said Petro Gazz assistant coach Stephen Patrona.
Brooke Van Sickle poured out a game-high 23 points, all but two coming from attacks. She also had 12 digs and four receptions to her name.
Van Sickle outperformed Savi Davison in their first duel, as the latter delivered 19 markers, nine receptions and five digs that went down the drain.
Jonah Sabete also made her presence felt with a double-double effort of 13 points and 10 digs, while Rem Palma chipped in nine markers.
Petro Gazz smelled blood in the decisive third frame as it built a 23-19 cushion courtesy of a Van Sickle hit.
The Filipina-American stalwart though botched a service attempt in the ensuing play before Dell Palomata delivered a blow.
The High Speed Hitters tried to stage a comeback but Shiela Kiseo coughed out a sevice attempt. Joy Dacoron then delivered a match-clinching ace.
PLDT suffered its first defeat, dropping to a 2-1 slate.
Erika Santos was the only other High Speed Hitter in double-digit territory with 10 points, while Kim Fajardo fanned out a game-high 17 excellent sets in the losing cause.
Petro Gazz aims to carry over momentum when it collides with Akari, while PLDT seeks to regain its winning ways when it takes on Capital1 on March 9, Saturday.
Both matches will be held at the FilOil EcoOil Arena.
