We’re actually not surprised that she’s in demand.
Alyssa Valdez has become a huge name that she can now start volleyball grassroots programs, fulfill the role of being a brand endorser, or even become a keynote speaker in academic or athletic programs.
But Valdez getting up on stage for a health advocacy event? That’s not exactly a hand-in-glove fit, but in case you forget, she is The Phenom.
On Saturday, the Creamline Cool Smashers star served as the special guest of a private hospital’s National Tuberculosis Day activities. The event, which was done in collaboration with the Department of Health (DOH), centered on efforts in the country’s fight against tuberculosis (TB).
The disease has become a major public health problem for the Philippines. The country is now the fourth-largest contributor of TB cases worldwide, accounting for seven percent of the global total, DOH said in March earlier this year.
TB primarily affects the poor as poverty exposes individuals to risk factors, such as poor nutrition and poorly ventilated and crowded environments, according to DOH. Smoking and alcohol use disorders also play a factor.
Tagged as a curable disease, doctors lament the continued spread of tuberculosis. An ambassador like Valdez can provide a boost to increase awareness among the Filipino population.
