The Angels have gained an outright semifinals berth with a 5-2 win-loss record.
It’s been awhile but coach Oliver Almadro is back in the PVL semifinals, this time in a Petro Gazz Angels uniform.
This after the Angels thumped the Akari Chargers, 25-15, 25-19, 22-25, 25-16 in the PVL All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena on Thursday.
“And I’m happy na nadala nila ako sa semifinals. I’ve not been here for quite a while,” said Almadro, whose last semis stint was in the 2022 with the Choco Mucho Flying Titans.
“I thank the Lord for them. They are angels. I thank the angels for bringing me here in the semifinals.”
He couldn’t help but recall his first meeting with his wards when he transferred from Choco Mucho to Petro Gazz months ago.
“When I arrived here, too much welcoming sila. And I’m really happy that what I instilled to them—hindi pa nga sobra sobra e, mga reminders lang,” he said. “Parang kaibigan lang nila [ako], to guide them. Sabi ko nga, I’m just an instrument to guide.”
Indeed, he has guided them to a 5-2 win-loss record for an outright semifinals berth.
The journey is long and hard, and they’re glad they here. But it’s not over yet.
“Importante is we have to be better than our best every day and every game,” he said.
