Things just got more interesting.
It’s been three years since the PBA last staged an All-Star Weekend. So, it’s only natural to wrap the upcoming one with more surprises.
Quinito Henson first reported that the league is looking to add more features to the upcoming All-Star Game in Passi, Iloilo.
On top of adapting the draft system in choosing the team members, here are some of the changes the league is planning to include in the March 9–12 spectacle, according to PBA operations officer Jun Bengua.
4-point shot
4 points for a three-pointer? Why not? Paul Lee and some guys are already launching shots from way, way beyond the arc anyway.
It’s not clear where, but there will be “designated spots” from long distance.
3-point dunk
It’s not everyday you see Filipino ballers throw the ball down, that’s why anyone who does will get a bonus point.
That said, we’re guessing Japeth Aguilar could end up becoming the All-Star Game MVP.
This one’s not new, though. The league implemented this rule once in the 2007 edition of the All-Star game.
Elam Ending
The league is also looking to adapt another feature from the NBA called the Elam Ending, where a game ends after a team reaches the target score.
But Bengua said Commissioner Willie Marcial and deputy commissioner Eric Castro are still deliberating whether to include this or not.
"Pinag-aaralan pa nila Com at coach Eric Castro," he said in a text message to One Sports.
