Meralco opted for a bigger import in Marvin Jones for the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup.
Meralco isn’t bringing Ismael Romero, after all.
Instead, the Bolts tapped Marvin Jones for the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup which unfurls on Wednesday, March 11.
Meralco team manager Paolo Trillo confirmed this on Power & Play on Saturday, March 7.
"We will be fielding in Marvin Jones," said Trillo.
After going undrafted in the NBA in 2017, the 32-year-old took his talents outside the United States.
The one-time FIBA Europe Cup champion made stopes in countries like Greece, Slovenia, and Spain before making his way to the Philippines.
Originally, Meralco intended on keeping Romero, who served as their reinforcement in the East Asia Super League.
With Jones, Trillo said the Bolts will have a shot blocker to help complement a core led by CJ Cansino, Chris Newsome, and Bong Quinto in the mid-season conference.
"We just felt it was time for him and for us not to line him up this conference," said Trillo.
Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone.
He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
