Marcio Lassiter, who holds the record for most three-pointers made in the PBA, has yet to win a PBA All-Star Three-Point Shootout title.
CANDON CITY, ILOCOS SUR — For the ninth time, Marcio Lassiter failed to emerge victorious in the PBA All-Star Three-Point Shootout Friday night, March 6.
Just when most thought Lassiter was bound to win his first right in front of his home crowd, Jerrick Ahanmisi happened.
Ahanmisi lit up from deep with 30 points, besting Lassiter’s 25 in the final round which also saw rookie Juan Gomez de Liaño putting up 18.
“Sayang,” said Lassiter moments after the shootout at the Candon City Arena here.
Still, the San Miguel sharpshooter, who holds the record for most three-pointers made in the PBA, was gracious in defeat.
“Give credit to Jerrick, he shot the ball just as well as I did. But he made a few more than me. Proud of him,” he said.
Like every All-Star participant, Lassiter was glad to put on a show for the fans, which is what the weekend is all about.
“It hurts but at the end of the day you try to put your best foot out there, and I think I did,” said the sharpshooter, whose mother traces her roots to Santiago, Ilocos Sur.
“I did put a show for the crowd, my hometown. I know they’re happy to see me, I know they wanna see more of me. But glad I can put a show for the three-point shootout.”
Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone.
He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
