Jerrick Ahanmisi was emotional when he emerged as the Obstacle Challenge and Three-Point shootout winner in the PBA All-Star.
CANDON CITY, ILOCOS SUR — Inside the star-studded arena, Jerrick Ahanmisi shone the brightest Friday night, March 8.
This as the Terrafirma standout took home the PBA All-Star Obstacle Challenge for guards and the three-point shootout title at the Candon City Arena here.
He was the first to pull off such a feat according to PBA chief statistician Fidel Mangonon.
“This is a product of hard work every single day, the things people that don’t see on camera, the things people don’t see when they’re watching practices, watching games,” said Ahanmisi after the competition.
Just when most thought Marcio Lassiter was going to run away with his first Three-Point title after scoring 25 points in the final round, Ahanmisi lit up with 30 big points to win it all.
Juan Gomez de Liaño of Converge came up with 16 points.
“I really didn’t have any thoughts. The thing that’s going through my head the most was just give your best and god will do the rest,” he said.
Earlier, Ahanmisi also lorded over the Obstacle Challenge for guards.
Ahanmisi breezed through the final course and clocked 24.44 seconds to beat Dalph Panopio (26.97), Rey Nambatac (27.94), Gomez de Liaño (35.83), Fran Yu (37.52), and Juami Tiongson (50.71).
Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone.
He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
