Could Jaylen Johnson be the missing piece Rain or Shine needs to break through?

With his arrival, Johnson believes things are only looking up for the Elasto Painters in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup.

“I’m excited to get the ball rolling. Like I said, we got some good players, athletic, great shooters, great decision makers,” said Johnson in a video the team posted on social media.

Before signing with Rain or Shine, the 6-foot-9 played with Gilas Pilipinas mainstay Kevin Quiambao at Goyang Sono Skygunners in the Korean Basketball League.

He also had a beefed up resume highlighted by stints in the NBA G League and a Summer League appearance with Indiana Pacers in 2019.

The 29-year-old brings all that experience to the Elasto Painters, who failed to advance to the Finals last season and settled for a quarterfinal berth appearance in this year’s Philippine Cup.

“I love winning. This team already got a competitive mindset so I’m just here to complement that and go all the way,” he said.

For Johnson, he’s a perfect fit for the Yeng Guiao-mentored squad.

“I’m a very versatile player. I can put the ball on the floor, I can shoot the ball, I can score,” he said.

“Whatever the team needs from me I’m willing to do. I’m an entertainer and I’m a winner.”

Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone.

He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
