Converge rookie Juan Gomez de Liaño is stuffing the stat sheet, leading to a strong start for the FiberXers in the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup.
Continuing to make waves in his young PBA career, Juan Gomez de Liaño registered his second triple-double performance last week to help Converge to back-to-back wins in the Season 50 Philippine Cup.
As if his history-making 15-point, 10-rebound, 11-assist rookie debut in their 129-92 rout of Titan Ultra last Oct. 11 wasn’t enough, Gomez de Liaño produced a 17-10-12 stat line as the FiberXers demolished Terrafirma 11 days later, 125-108.
He then produced a 19-point, 12-rebound double-double in follow up 128-114 win over Phoenix that enabled Converge to grab a share of the lead at 3-1.
For his outstanding play, Juan GDL earned the nod as the PBA Press Corps’ Player of the Week for the period Oct. 22 to 26, 2025.
It was the second POW citation for Converge’s talented guard, who was first honored during the opening salvo of the golden season last Oct. 5 to 12 on the heels of his historic first triple-double.
Gomez de Liaño, who averaged 18 points, 12 assists, seven assists, and two steals in the two games, bested NLEX’s Kevin Alas, teammate Alec Stockton and Rain or Shine’s Adrian Nocum for the weekly honor.
With two citations, the no. 2 pick of the draft now leads the race for the PBA Press Corps’ Order of Merit, the award given to the player with the most POW recognitions at the end of the season.
