KBL champion Carl Tamayo has been compared to elite company — at least when it comes to his looks.
Carl Tamayo’s face card never declines — whether be it in Manila, Japan, or in South Korea.
For fans, it has been made even more apparent thanks to an uncanny resemblance to one of baseball's most talented athletes at the moment: LA Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani.
The baseball superstar is owning plenty of spotlight due to the Dodgers’ impending bid in the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays
Not a stranger to success, having won championships in every stop of his career so far, from high school with the NU Bullpups, to the UP Fighting Maroons, and to his club teams with the Ryukyu Golden Kings and the Changwon LG Sakers, Tamayo also mirrors Ohtani’s looks.
At least, according to the media in the Korean Basketball League... as they asked Tamayo about it.
“Yeah, I used to get [it] all the time, especially when I was a little bit fat,” Tamayo quipped with a smile.
“I really look like him, but yeah, he’s a good, good looking guy. So I’m grateful for it,” he added.
Tamayo and Changwon are currently defending champions in the KBL. They flaunt a 5-2 record in their first seven games of the season.
In their recent game, Tamayo led the LG Sakers with 24 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and one steal in a victory over the Daegu KOGAS, 76-68.
Norming career highs across the board so far in his professional career this season, with averages of 18.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and one steal in six games played this year, Tamayo is looking like he’s embodying his inner Shohei Ohtani.
And it’s more than just his looks.
