Scottie Thompson played through pain but his efforts went for naught as Ginebra surrendered a 2-3 semis lead to San Miguel in the PBA Philippine Cup.
Ginebra do-it-all guard Scottie Thompson emerged from the dugout at the Smart Araneta Coliseum seemingly devoid of joy Friday night, July 4.
Thompson and the rest of the Gin Kings have just surrendered a 92-103 crucial Game 5 loss to San Miguel in Game 5 of the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup semifinals.
Crestfallen and all, Thompson still entertained a few questions from the members of the press.
“Tough loss para sa’min,” said a visibly exhausted Thompson, who is usually more generous with his answers.
Eyeing to break a 2-2 standoff and give his squad the pivotal edge in the best-of-seven series, Thompson pushed himself and produced a near double-double of 14 points and 9 rebounds despite being bothered by a hamstring injury since the quarterfinals.
But he is not making excuses.

While he admitted to having to do everything through pain, he knows what is at stake, and he vows to give it his all.
“No excuses na. Hindi naman excuse na hindi 100 percent para matalo,” said the former Most Valuable Player.
“I’m battling through it now, so ganoon talga. As long as ibinibigay 'yong 100 percent effort,” he added.
Thompson and his Ginebra teammates will shoot for the equalizer in Game 6 Sunday, July 6, at the same Cubao venue.
Tipoff is at 5 p.m.
