Chris Newsome was limping when he emerged from the Meralco dugout at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Friday, April 26.

Newsome was wearing a heat pack on his left knee, minutes after getting entangled with Phoenix’s Javee Mocon in the Bolts’ 82-76 win in the PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup.

WIthout an MRI, Meralco coach Luigi Trillo could not confirm anything yet other than his prized ward got hurt after the collision with 19.4 ticks remaining in the game.

“We have to have it checked first. Hopefully, it’s nothing serious. He said he felt something. So, until we have something conclusive from MRI, maybe we’ll find it out tomorrow,” Trillo told reporters during the post-match interview.

Newsome did not seem concerned, though.

The Gilas mainstay is confident he would be ready in time for the Bolts’ match against Magnolia on Sunday, April 28.

“I think I can play. It’s more of letting the muscles kind of relax a bit from the hit. Other than that, everything else is OK,” he said.

For now, he is looking to rest his knee as Meralco, which totes a 4-5 record, is eager to finish the elimination round strong in hopes of nabbing a playoff berth.

“Just going to go home to rest and take some medicine. We got a game on Sunday, so we don’t have too much time in between games,” Newsome said.

“I'll do my best to get ready for the next game against Magnolia, just do whatever I can to be available.”
