Gustafson, the 2019 AP women's college basketball player of the year from Iowa, scored a team-high 29 points, including a crucial basket at the start of overtime.

Spain overcame a strong performance from China's Yueru Li, who had a game-high 31 points and 15 rebounds. Maria Araujo hit a key 3-pointer in overtime, and Leonor Rodriguez added 25 points, including a vital free throw with 13.2 seconds left. Despite Li's late score, Spain secured the win as Queralt Casas tossed the ball into the air at the buzzer, celebrating their hard-fought victory.

Spain's captain, Alba Torrens, commended the team's perseverance and adjustments, marking a successful start to their Olympic campaign.
