Wendell Ramos and Lance Carr powered Team Blue in the victory against Kevin Dasom, David Licauco, and the rest of Team White in an exciting Sigla MVP Olympics All-Star Game.
Wendell Ramos knocked down the go-ahead free throws as Team Blue edged Team White, 60-59, in the Sigla MVP Olympics All-Star Game at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Tuesday.
Team Blue trailed, 59-58, after David Licauco converted an and-one play to give Team White a slim lead late in the fourth quarter.
Ramos secured a crucial offensive rebound after Lance Carr missed a three-pointer. A scramble for the loose ball resulted in a foul with 4.7 seconds remaining, sending Ramos to the line, where he calmly sank two free throws to put Team Blue ahead, 60-59.
“It’s a great game. It’s real basketball,” said Manuel V. Pangilinan, chairman and CEO of the MVP Group of Companies.
Carr paced Team Blue with 26 points, while Ramos, who added five markers, was named Player of the Game.
“It’s a beautiful game. When you see a beautiful game, with everybody playing hard, everybody enjoys it, whoever wins,” said Team Blue coach Jojo Lastimosa.
“I was really surprised to see some of the actors. I think they have experience playing college ball, which is really nice. You can see that those who really know how to play really stand out,” he added.
Lastimosa, who is also the TNT Tropang 5G team manager, mentioned several actors who impressed him during the game.
“Prince Carlos, Lance Carr, JC de Vera, Derek Ramsay — he’s kind of up there in age, but he can still play. Of course, Wendell Ramos. David Licauco as well,” he said.
Kevin Dasom finished with 21 points for Team White, while Licauco added 16 and JC de Vera chipped in 10.
