Alex Eala played a little less than 20 minutes before a downpour stopped play at the Suzhou Open in China.
Alex Eala’s bounce back bid at the Suzhou WTA 125 tournament in China has been delayed due to the weather, with the match suspended midway through the first set.
Eala, who is coming off of a semis appearance in Jingshan last week, was playing against Poland’s Katarzyna Kawa when play was halted with the first set on Tuesday. The score was tied at 2-all at the time of stoppage.
Eala is seeded 4th in the tournament and is a favorite against Kawa.
The Filipina is also ranked significantly higher (58) than her older foe (124) in the WTA rankings.
In the most recent game before play was stopped, Eala’s serve was broken in a love game allowing Katarzyna to tie the match.
A total of 18 minutes of match time was played before the downpour stopped the action.
Eala will look to bounce back quickly when action resumes after the weather clears in China.
