World No. 2 Brazil swept France in a hard-fought quarterfinal to secure a semifinal clash against top-ranked Italy in the 2025 FIVB Women's Volleyball World Championship.
World No. 2 Brazil moved one step closer to redemption after knocking out France in a close straight-sets battle, 27-25, 33-31, 25-19, in the FIVB Women’s World Championship quarterfinals match on Wednesday, Sept. 3.
After a lengthy second set battle, which lasted 38 minutes, the Brazilians put away the French for good in the third set after pulling away at the 12-11 mark.
Veterans Gabi and Rosamaria pushed Brazil to a 16-12 advantage, where they would go on to extend their lead by as many as six points at 22-16 after Julia Bergmann’s cross-court spike.
Brazil would go on to seal the win after France was called for a net touch.
Bergmann led the way for the South Americans with 17 points, while Gabi and Rosamaria added 13 and 12 markers, respectively.
Helena Cazaute finished with a game-high 20 points for France. She was backed by Iman Ndiaye, who had 15 in the losing effort.
With the win, Brazil sets itself up for a semifinal duel against world No. 1 Italy on Saturday, Sept. 6.
