Alex Eala capped her historic win over Clara Tauson at the US Open with a memorable quote during her on-court interview.
“I’m always in the mood for more history,” she said.
Ahead of her second-round encounter against Spain’s Cristina Bucsa, the 20-year-old can do just that as she stands to make more waves on tour, just days after becoming the first Filipino to win a singles match in a Grand Slam main draw in the Open Era.

Going up against a lower-ranked foe who specializes more on doubles, Eala is seen as the favorite but Bucsa is no easy target, proving this season that she can also take down former Grand Slam champions.
Having won their only other meeting four years ago, Eala hopes a repeat of her victory to march on in the US Open.
