The Philippine men’s national volleyball team entered this Asian Games without a win in the last 11 stagings. The last time a men’s team won a volleyball game in the Asiad, in fact, was way back in September 9, 1974, when it defeated Pakistan 15-7, 14-16, 15-11, 15-10.

That finally changed on Wednesday as the Philippines finally broke through with a 25-23, 25-16, 25-12 sweep of Afghanistan in group stage action.

And, just like that, the losing streak—which stood for 49 long years—is over. More importantly, the national team leveled its record at 1-1 and also kept its bid for the Round of 12 very much alive.

Bryan Bagunas, a many-time national team player, once again delivered the goods for the Philippines, finishing with 16 points on a 14-for-20 attack clip to go along his 1 ace and 1 block.

Naturally, fans were in a celebratory mood—and in awe of Bagunas’ stellar performance, his second in as many games.

X (formerly Twitter) user #LabanPilipinas probably described Bagunas’ performance the best: “Grabe ka na Bryan Bagunas.”

Jhibangaa was effusive in his praise as well, pointing out how Bagunas went 14-for-20 on his attacks.

“Grabe si Bagunas! 70% success rate! Jhibangaa commented.

The win also got fans hyped for the Philippines’ next match, which is against Japan.

Naturally, X user FEU HANGGANG DULO wanted to know, “Team A ng Japan ba ‘to mhie?”

Miks, meanwhile, is the positive vibes the Philippines needs.

“Manifesting [a] 5-set win over Japan,” he commented.

Over at Facebook, a certain Bruno Funsalan could only wish good luck to the team.

“Congrats RP men’s volleyball team. Good luck in your next game. God bless,” he commented.

The Philippines’ match versus Japan is on Thursday evening.
