What do a volleyball star, a courtside reporter, a fitness enthusiast, and a Miss Universe have in common?

They’ve all fallen for pickleball—the fast-paced paddle sport that’s winning over athletes and celebrities alike.

Once considered a hybrid of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, pickleball is now seeing a serious surge in popularity. Its blend of movement, strategy, and social energy has made it one of the most talked-about emerging sports—and the local scene is catching on.

PLDT High Speed Hitters’ Kim Kianna Dy recently picked up the paddle during a UNIQLO-hosted event at Met Park Sports Center.

Also present was actor and fitness enthusiast Enchong Dee, who’s always on the lookout for new ways to stay active. Courtside reporter Kyla Kingsu joined the fun as well, sharing that her mom has been playing almost daily—making pickleball their shared bonding time.

What began as a crossover curiosity among athletes has quickly moved beyond the court.

Style icon Heart Evangelista now plays regularly, often turning heads with her elevated athleisure looks.

Her passion for the sport soon drew in Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, who recently joined her for a match.

Pickleball’s appeal lies in its accessibility. It’s beginner-friendly, competitive when you want it to be, and perfect for both workouts and hangouts.

With more public courts popping up, brand events gaining momentum, and the sport trending across social media, its rise shows no signs of slowing down.

Whether you're in it for fitness, fun, or fashion, pickleball is carving out its place in the local sports and lifestyle scene.

And with names like Kim Kianna Dy, Enchong Dee, Heart Evangelista, and Catriona Gray leading the way, it’s only a matter of time before more paddles hit the court.
