Mom, My No. 1: Kevin Alas sees mother as balancer in relationship with dad, coach Louie

Growing up, Kevin Alas' father, Louie, played a dual role in his life, serving also as his basketball coach.

 Here comes his mother, Liza, who provides the balance in their father-son — and player-coach — relationship.

 The younger Alas expresses his appreciation for his mom in One Sports' Mother's Day special.

One Sports: What’s your mom’s name? How old is she?

 Kevin Alas: My mom is Maria Liza. She’s 63 years old, I think.

 

 OS: We all know the dynamics of your relationship with your father, coach Louie, but can you describe your relationship with your mom?

 Alas: Balanced, eh. I grew up with my dad as basketball coach ko. I guess my mom is the one who balances out 'yong relationship namin. 'Pag napagagalitan [ako ni Dad]. Minsan 'yong mom ko naman then 'yong dad ko naman. I guess I can say na balanced 'yong relationship.

 OS: What are your favorite bonding moments with her?

 Alas: Playing basketball my whole life, it's every Sunday na we have a get-together. Nagla-lunch kami together as a family.

 OS: What are your favorite memories of her so far?

 Alas: Growing up, 'yong mga fun memories is 'pag nag-a-abroad kami. Siyempre, it’s a time to get away from basketball and enjoy each other’s company. Bakasyon lang talaga.
