Salute for Guillou!

29-year-old midfielder and forward Katrina Guillou was hailed as the 2022 Pinay Futbolera of the Year by nonprofit group Pinay Futbol.

She garnered 42.5% of the social media votes on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, outpacing fellow Philippine Women's National Football Team members Hali Long (33.7%), Sarina Bolden (19.6%), and Quinley Quezada (4.2%), according to Pinay Futbol.

The top four players were chosen by the Philippine Women's Football Association and the poll ran for 24 hours.

"I personally want to say thank you to @pinayfutbol @philippinewomensfa for the great honor and being named #Pinay #Futbolera of the Year," Guillou posted on Instagram.

"It is an honor to wear the #Philippines jersey and represent the country. I look forward to keep making everyone proud!" she added.

Guillou has delivered ten goals in 22 caps for the Philippines, including her first hat-trick in a friendly match against Fiji.

She was also key in the Filipinas' pivotal attacks in the Pinatar Cup, getting the best shot at the goal against Wales and another against Scotland.

Guillou was born in the United States to a Filipina mother and a French father and has played professionally in Finland before heading to Sweden. She is now with Pitea IF.

Even with her international experience, Gillou is always keeping the Philippines in her heart. Even more so as the Filipinas train for the country's debut in the FIFA Women's World Cup later this year.

"I will cherish this honor forever!" She wrote.
