Carl Tamayo's availability remains uncertain as he is still sorting out some visa problems ahead of Gilas Pilipinas' debut in the FIBA World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers.
Carl Tamayo is still in the process of securing his US visa just days before Gilas Pilipinas’ first game in the FIBA World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers.
Tamayo bared this development to One Sports after the national team’s practice on Monday, Nov. 24.
“Nag-interview ako kaninang umaga [at the US Embassy],” said Tamayo, whose team will face Guam on the road and at home in this opening window.
The Changwon LG Sakers import in the Korean Basketball League is keeping his fingers crossed that he will be able to get his visa in time for the team’s departure to Guam.
The team leaves for the island nation late Tuesday, Nov. 25, and will play the game on Friday, Nov. 28.

“Hopefully makuha ko sya tomorrow morning para makasama ako,” he said.
In the event that his US visa is approved but arrives late, Tamayo said he’ll just have to follow the national team on a different schedule.
“Baka sumunod ako. If ever one day late, I think I’ll follow,” he said.
After the road game on Nov. 28, Gilas Pilipinas will host Guam at the Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym on Dec. 1.

He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
