Gilas Pilipinas have struggled time and again defending the three-point territory.

That is none more evident in the opening salvo of their FIBA Asia Cup 2025 quarterfinal match against Australia, where Gilas gave up seven three-pointers.

That allowed the Boomers to build an early 29-12 cushion to set the tone for their 84-60 victory Wednesday, Aug. 13.

Australia thus marched on to the semifinals, where it awaits the winner between Iran and Chinese Taipei.

“I think, the whole tournament, we’ve struggled with teams' three-point shooting,” said Ramos, whose squad fell into that same quagmire in the group stage against the Taiwanese and New Zealand.

“So I guess when we get back together again in November, we're going to fix things up or maybe change up some defense. We've got address that because every international team is looking for threes.”

Jaylin Galloway shot three of his four triples in the first quarter for Australia.

He wound up with 15 points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Owen Foxwell also fired 15 points build on three triples, making timely shots in the fourth period to keep Gilas at bay.

Jack McVeigh added 12 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal for the Boomers, who have yet to lose a game since joining the tournament in 2017.

Overall, Australia made 11 from three-point range.

After falling behind by as many as 20 points, 28-48, at the break, the Filipinos did put up a gallant stand and even outscored their tormentors in the third period, 22-21.

But while they were executing better and defending better, there was not really much they could do to flip the script against the back-to-back reigning champion and world No. 7 team.

Kevin Quiambao continued his fine play for Gilas, though, as he proved to be one of the bright spots for the program as he uncorked five triples for team-high 17 points.

Ramos struggled from three, nailing only one of his 11 attempts from that zone but still put up 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Justin Brownlee, hero in the Philippines' win over Saudi Arabia, got early doubles most of the way and ended up with a measly 10 points to go with three rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block.
