History, pride, and a place in the semifinals will be on the line when Gilas Pilipinas battle powerhouse Australia in the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 quarterfinals.

The Boomers, two-time defending champions, enter as Group A’s top seed after sweeping their way into the knockout stage. They have yet to taste defeat in the Asia Cup since joining the competition in 2017 and own a commanding 5-1 all-time record against the Philippines.

But beyond the numbers, this matchup carries extra weight—it will be the first meeting between the two nations since their infamous 2018 brawl in Bulacan that left both teams with suspensions.

Gilas, however, arrives with momentum after surviving a grueling qualification round, capped by an overtime escape over Saudi Arabia for back-to-back wins.

With confidence growing and the challenge steep, the Filipinos will look to defy history and punch their ticket to the semifinals.

Tip off is Wednesday, August 13, at 7:00 p.m. (PH time).
