The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) and the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) are strengthening their ties to form the best national women’s team possible for sorties abroad.

The two bodies announced plans to stage a joint invitational tryout for the Alas Pilipinas Women, opening the doors to top talents not only from the PVL but also from the UAAP, NCAA, and other collegiate leagues.

In a statement, the PNVF said the upcoming tryout is designed to create a clearer, unified pathway for Filipino volleyball players aiming to represent the country abroad.

“This initiative aims to provide a unified pathway for top volleyball talents across the country to represent the Philippines on the international stage,” the federation wrote.

The final details of the tryout, including the schedule, venue, and registration process, will be announced soon.

The PNVF emphasized that the partnership is intended to strengthen collaboration across the national, professional, and collegiate levels.

“This partnership is a significant step toward the betterment of Philippine volleyball, strengthening collaboration between national, professional, and collegiate programs,” it wrote.

“Together, PNVF and PVL are committed to developing elite athletes, expanding opportunities, and building a stronger future for Philippine volleyball.”

Beyond long-term development, the initiative also aligns with one of the national team’s major competitive goals, specifically ending the Philippines’ 21-year gold medal drought in the women’s volleyball event of the Southeast Asian Games.

When long-term PVL executive Tony Boy Liao replaced Tats Suzara as the PNVF chief last November, he floated the suggestion by some clubs to form a young player pool.

Currently, the senior Alas Pilipinas program is formed by a core of players at the pro level, supported by promising stars from the collegiate ranks. This proved fruitful during the FIVB national team window, finding success at the SEA V.League and the AVC Nations Cup.

However, the Alas Women fell short of a podium finish at the 2025 SEA Games.

With the doors now open to a broader talent pool, the upcoming selection process is expected to play a key role in shaping the next chapter of Alas Pilipinas Women.
