Alas Pilipinas Women took a semis beating at the hands of Vietnam in SEA Games 2025, but will have one more chance for the podium via the bronze medal game.
There’s tiers to a winning program, and Alas Pilipinas Women are not on the gold-medal level just yet.
The Philippines endured another tough loss to regional nemesis Vietnam, taking the 17-25, 14-25, 17-25 loss in the semifinals of SEA Games 2025 women’s volleyball on Sunday.
Alas Women showed promise in the first set led by Angel Canino, but were slowly overwhelmed by the charging Vietnamese.
Alyssa Solomon led Alas in scoring with 10 points, while Canino added nine. Eya Laure added seven points off the bench.
For Vietnam, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy had a game-high 15 points.
The loss further extended the Philippines’ gold medal drought in the SEA Games, having last won first place in 1993.
Still, Alas Women have one more chance to end a 20-year medal drought as Alas Women will take on either Indonesia or host Thailand in the bronze medal game.
