Alas Pilipinas Men aced their SEA Games 2025 debut, delivering a clean sweep over Myanmar in Pool B play.
Alas Pilipinas Men jumpstarted their SEA Games 2025 campaign with a tough 25-23, 25-20, 25-21 win over Myanmar in Pool B play on Saturday at the Indoor Stadium Huamark in Bangkok.
Returning to international competition for the first time since the 2025 FIVB Men’s World Championship, Marck Espejo, Leo Ordiales and the rest of the Alas Men needed a composed showing to turn back Myanmar.
Down 16-21, Espejo spearheaded a thrilling 9-2 closing run, finishing with a solid cross-court kill to complete Alas Men’s comeback in the opening set.
Alas carried the momentum into the second, breaking a 16-all deadlock by owning nine of the final 13 points for a two-set cushion.
The Philippines then took care of business in the third and closed out Myanmar in front of a lively pro-Filipino crowd.
Next up for Alas Men is a clash with three-time defending SEA Games champion Indonesia in their group finale on Tuesday, Dec. 16.
