Alas Pilipinas Men lost in a virtual battle for silver against Indonesia, closing the Candon leg of the 2025 SEA V.League out of the podium.
CANDON, ILOCOS SUR — Alas Pilipinas Men were unable to salvage a silver medal finish as they fell out of the podium in Leg 1 of 5th SEA V.League following a three-set loss to Indonesia, 19-25, 17-25, 17-25, at the Candon City Arena here on Sunday.
Despite ending Saturday night with a slim chance for gold, Alas Pilipinas' first-place hopes were quickly dashed when Thailand swept Cambodia in the earlier game, sealing the Leg 1 championship for the Thais thanks to their superior set ratio.
The home team could’ve finished second if they had won over Indonesia, but because of the loss, they fell behind Vietnam despite identical 2-2 records also due to set ratio.
Alas looked sluggish from the get-go against a more determined Indonesian squad, and was hardly threatening in the endgame.
Leo Ordiales once again led the scoring for Alas Men in the losing effort with 12 points.
Boy Arnez Arabi paced Indonesia with 21 points as they take silver with the victory.
Despite the disappointing ending, Alas Men can regroup rather quickly as Leg 2 begins in Jakarta, Indonesia on Wednesday, July 16.
