Alas Pilipinas make it two wins in as many days as they bucked an opening set loss to Indonesia to win in four, 22-25, 25-23, 25-13, 28-26, in the AVC Nations Cup in Vietnam on Sunday afternoon.

Alyssa Solomon paced Alas before going down with an apparent injury as she finished with 17 points built off of 10 attacks, four blocks, and three aces.

Solomon was hurt early in set 4 with Alas ahead, 2-1, and did not return for the rest of the game.

Angel Canino and Shaina Nitura were able to pick up the slack as the latter went in for Solomon. In her second game with the national team, Nitura finished with six points — including the match-clinching attack in set 4.

Meanwhile, Canino was tied with Solomon as the Philippines’ highest pointer with 17 markers of her own. She also had 12 excellent digs.

Three-time UAAP MVP Bella Belen finished with 12 points, eight excellent digs, and five excellent receptions.

The Philippines rebounded from a close set 1 loss with clutch plays in the second set where they fought back from a 21-23 deficit. Alas went on a 4-0 closing run, punctuated by a Belen attack to tie the match, 1-1.

They then shifted the momentum with a dominant win in set 3, 25-13.

Ersandrina Devega paced Indonesia in the losing effort with 22 points — all of which were built off of attacks.

Alas thus improves to 2-0 in Pool B.

Alas faces Iran next to cap the initial triple-header on Monday, June 9.
