UE ended its painful 40-game, five-year losing skid last year. Now the Lady Warriors look to build on that step this Season 88, starting with a showdown against the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
Team captain Aliyah Hanna Ronquillo and the UE Lady Red Warriors kick off their UAAP Season 88 women’s basketball bid against the Ateneo Lady Eagles on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. from the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion Arena.
Ronquillo will lead a UE squad hoping to build on its lone victory from last season.
The Lady Warriors snapped a five-year, 40-game losing skid in Season 87 with a 65-47 win over the DLSU Lay Archers, but still finished at the bottom of the standings at 1-13.

Aside from Ronquillo’s leadership, incoming sophomore Rachel Lacayanga is expected to play a bigger role as the team looks to rise from the cellar and inch closer to contention.
Since their Finals appearance back in Season 80, the Lady Warriors have not returned to the Final Four, but the team hopes to change that narrative with a new campaign.
Their opening challenge, though, is a tough one against Ateneo, anchored by two-time MVP Kacey Dela Rosa.
