National University just secured one of the country’s top young playmakers.

Andrei Bolabola, an 18-year-old standout from Tandag City, Surigao del Sur, has officially committed to the NU Bulldogs.

Bolabola carved his name in the national volleyball scene with strong performances for Jacinto P. Elpa National High School, earning multiple Best Setter awards across regional and national tournaments, including the 2024-25 Palarong Pambansa.

“It was a dream for me since I started playing volleyball,” Bolabola shared. “NU is known for producing the best setters, so it’s an honor and a big opportunity for me.”

Asked whether he’s ready for the challenge, the 6-foot setter didn’t hesitate, expressing his desire to be part of NU’s sustained dominance in the UAAP.

“Definitely, yes,” said Bolabola. “With my skills and determination, I know we can continue the championship tradition.”

The rising playmaker is now looking forward to learning under head coach Dante Alinsunurin and assistant coach Jesse Lopez—two names with deep ties to the national team and NU’s championship culture.

“To enhance more not just by playing, but also as an athlete. I know for sure that with their guidance, it will make me a better player both on and off the court,” he said.

Making the leap from Mindanao to Manila may be daunting for some, but Bolabola embraces the challenge. He also took time to thank those who helped pave the way.

“Yes, turning dreams into reality,” he said, smiling.

“Thank you to everyone who believed in me—my family, my coaches, my teammates, and my community in Tandag. This is for all of you.”

With Bolabola in the fold, the Bulldogs are adding another promising piece to their already formidable program, fresh off their historic five-peat run in Season 87.
