EJ Obiena needed only one attempt to surpass a new SEA Games record of 5.70 meters, edging out Amsamarn Patsapong to defend his men’s pole vault title.
Simply four-midable is one EJ Obiena.
The Philippines’ top vaulter continued his SEA Games dominance, fending off a strong challenge from Thailand’s Amsamarn Patsapong to successfully defend his title for a fourth consecutive edition on Tuesday, December 16, at Suphachalasai Stadium in Bangkok.
Both Obiena and Patsapong cleared the new SEA Games record of 5.70 meters, but Obiena did it on his first attempt, while Patsapong required all three tries to surpass the mark.
Moments later, the two leapers attempted to clear 5.75 meters, but neither succeeded.
Patsapong settled for silver, while Elijah Cole claimed bronze, giving the Philippines two athletes on the podium.
