Kobe Shinwa University pulled off a stunning four-set win against the Creamline Cool Smashers, 27-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-21, in the 2025 PVL Invitational at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Tuesday, August 26.
The Japanese squad banked on a strong outing of Kokoro Yasuma with 23 points on 21 attacks and two service aces, to go along with 12 excellent receptions.
After failing to secure the sweep against the defending champions, Kobe Shinwa raced to an early 9-4 lead in the fourth set.
While the Cool Smashers threatened to cut the deficit behind the efforts of Lorie Bernardo and Jema Galanza, KSU stayed composed as they continued to hold onto their five-point lead.
Creamline would make one last push after a 6-1 run to pull within a single point at 22-21.
But Kobe Shinwa would not be denied as they closed the game out with a 3-0 run. Back-to-back points from Nagisa Komatsuda pushed her squad to match point before Arisu Ishikawa sealed the victory with an off-the-block hit.
With the win, Kobe Shinwa improved to 2-1, tied with Chery Tiggo at the No. 2 spot. On the other hand, Creamline dropped to 1-3, moving on the brink of missing out on the championship match.
Up next for Kobe Shinwa will be the Cignal HD Spikers on Thursday, August 28, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
